Resumee

Our test winner, the Pulsar Plus Manual Comb Binder, is very easy to operate and has a high punching performance. However, it is quite large and heavy and therefore not so easy to store and transport. Especially for an office or large home working space, where it has a fixed location and is often used, it is very well suited.

Pro

  • One-handed operable
  • Very good binding result
  • Very easy handling

Cons

  • Heavy and big

360° View

Easy-to-use device for frequent use, but takes up a lot of space.

Special features

The Pulsar Plus Manual Comb Binder is the only machine that can be operated with one hand when punching several sheets, as it does not slip. In addition, the binding and punching mechanisms are separate from each other, which enables the fast binding of many sheets. Very practical is the comb storage compartment with integrated binding spine measuring function, in which binding spines can be stowed and their diameters measured.

Appearance

The sturdy Pulsar Plus Manual Comb Binder in white and black is mostly made of plastic. With its 6.9 kg, it is the heaviest and, in terms of footprint, the largest device. It is therefore not as easy to store as its competitors.

Handling

16 sheets can be punched with this machine without a lot of effort. The Pulsar Plus Manual Comb Binder delivers a clean result even with 20 sheets, but I find it hard to trust the plastic lever to provide the necessary power in the long run.

The test winner convinces with its practical binding device
The test winner convinces with its practical binding device

The Pulsar Plus Manual Comb Binder convinces with its practical binding equipment. The punching and binding mechanisms are separated from each other. This means that punched sheets can be threaded directly onto the binding spine opened with the comb opening lever. I found it very easy to bind a folder with many sheets. The workflow was very fluid and less tedious than with its competitors.

The Pulsar Plus Manual Comb Binder is heavier than its competitors. This gives it a very stable stand and prevents it from slipping even when operated with one hand.

Binding result

The markings on the Pulsar Plus Manual Comb Binder that indicate, in which position you have to insert DIN A4 and DIN A5 sheets into the punch tray, are very accurate and work well. The one-sided paper stop is very easy to adjust. However, you have to make sure that the sheets are tight and flush with the stop. There is no double-sided clamping device for the sheets. You should always check whether you have chosen the correct position with lubricating paper before punching important documents. Even small displacements can ensure that the holes at the edge are open or that individual punched stacks are not flush with each other.

In my tests, the Pulsar Plus Manual Comb Binder delivered clean punched holes. The binding was also very simple, thanks to the practical binding equipment of the device.

Other

The machine has a punching waste compartment that catches the punched paper. It is very easy to remove and holds a lot of punched paper. The manufacturer promises an automatic opening of the tray when it is full to the brim. I tested this with shredded paper and a few die-cuts. The tray did not open automatically for me.

Included in the scope of delivery is the binding material, including the spine and front and back sides, for 10 bindings.
