The Standsome Double is very easy to set up and dismantle but is quite impractical in everyday (office) life. The biggest disadvantage is the stability of the product. The wobbling of the entire standing desk can hardly be prevented during use.
Processing and Design
The Standsome Double is generally well made. It consists of 19 mm thick multiplex plywood panels, which are carefully sanded at the edges so that you do not get any splinters. All in all, this standing desk consists of 5 wooden elements. In addition, 4 rubber feet are included for a secure stand.
Unfortunately, the product is a bit shaky. If the work surfaces are loaded, the whole table moves. One reason for this is that the individual parts are simply plugged together. On the other hand, the worktops are only connected to the main tabletop at one point and are not supported any further.
The design in a wood look is a matter of taste. For those who do not like the natural look, this standing desk is also available painted in the colours granite, motor black and gentle white.
Since the individual parts are simply plugged together and no tools are required, the construction of the Standsome Double is very simple. According to the manufacturer, the product should be assembled in 40-50 seconds. This can be done without any problems. However, especially the large main piece is quite bulky and unwieldy and there are no handles apart from the slits for the work surfaces. Due to its size, the entire construction on the desk is difficult. We, therefore, recommend that you assemble the Standsome Double on the floor and then place it on the desk. Lifting the top of the desk is a bit cumbersome due to the lack of handles.
The disassembly is just as uncomplicated as the assembly.
Suitability for everyday use
Despite the simple structure, the integration of the Standsome Double into everyday office life is difficult.
When changing from the sitting to the standing working position, you first have to make room on the desk for the large Standsome. This means you will need to move your mouse, keyboard, laptop, and possibly your screen to the side to make enough room.
You can then place your laptop or screen with your mouse and keyboard on the work surfaces. Our laser mouse worked fine on the desktop without a mouse pad. The rubber feet also provide a secure stand.
While working on the Standsome Double, we noticed that the screen on the upper work surface wobbles when typing on the keyboard. Depending on the intensity of the keystrokes, this shaking can be very annoying.
Another problem is storing the Standome when you are not using it. When assembled, it takes up a relatively large amount of space. Therefore, depending on the size of the office, it is necessary to mount or dismount the standing desk each time you change the working position.
Thanks to the 10 steps and a maximum height of the upper working surface of 70 cm, a good working position can be found where the screen is at eye level and the shoulders are relaxed.
However, working with the screen and keyboard is only enjoyable if you do not have to look at the keyboard very often. Otherwise, working standing up is much more strenuous than sitting down.
