2nd place: Avantree Neetto Adjustable Laptop Table

Standsome Mod Double - thumbnail Test seal: Standsome Mod Double, Rating satisfactory

3rd place: Standsome Mod Double

The Standsome Double is very easy to set up and dismantle but is quite impractical in everyday (office) life. The biggest disadvantage is the stability of the product. The wobbling of the entire standing desk can hardly be prevented during use.

  • You don't just burn more calories standing up than you do while sitting down: The less compressive load is also beneficial for your blood circulation.
  • Standing also has positive effects on the psyche, as it is well known that standing raises the mood and a firm stand also increases self-esteem than hiding small behind the screen.
  • People with circulatory weakness and illnesses should make sure that they consume sufficient fluids and food throughout the day to prevent dizzy spells when using the bar table.
  • It is advisable to find an optimal position for your own stature so that the neck does not bend but remains straight, and shoulders, elbows, and wrists can also adopt a relaxed posture.
  • Before you buy, make sure the monitor, keyboard, and mouse cables are long enough for the standing version.

In the run-up to the test, we defined practical requirements and the following test criteria:

  • User-friendliness
  • Processing and
  • Sturdiness

In order to evaluate these criteria, we have defined several tests for the height-adjustable standing desks. First, the attachments are set up according to the corresponding instructions. Before they then go through the practical test, the processing of the standing desk is checked. They are placed at the workplace as recommended by the manufacturer and equipped with a monitor, mouse and keyboard. In the practical test, the standing desks are worked on and during this time it is assessed how stable and user-friendly they are. In a further test run the work on the laptop is tested. In addition, it is assessed how comfortable it is to work standing on the attachments.

We test the tops for longer use and stability

In order to rule out errors and to ensure the stress of everyday use, each test takes place in several rounds.

The test criteria are given percentages depending on their importance. The final score is then objectively calculated from the test criteria using an algorithm.

Product selection

Our product selection is based on an observation of the current market. In addition to popular branded products, we also include insider tips in our selection. Criteria such as price and range of functions are an important factor for us. The test field is also determined by analysis and evaluation of customer reviews and external tests (e.g. Stiftung Warentest).

The devices are purchased anonymously or lent to us by the manufacturer. Dealers and manufacturers have no influence on the tests and our evaluation.

As soon as new relevant products come onto the market, our test field is extended by these. The new products go through the same test as the already tested devices.

The purchase of a height-adjustable standing desk is always a good idea if you have a sedentary job. As a minimum, endurance sports should be practiced regularly as compensation. While a height-adjustable desk is often a costly affair, a post-purchase standing desk is affordable. It is an easily manageable retrofit, which allows a more variable and health-compatible working.

Standing Desk Avantree Neetto
Small standing Desks can be easily integrated into everyday office life.

So if you have a sedentary office job, you can retrofit your desk at any time. The desk attachments, which are offered in specialized trade or with Amazon, are compatible with each desk. Unfortunately, ergonomic upgrading is not always possible when space is too limited in an open-plan office. Before anyone makes this decision, the measurements must first be taken.

In a larger company, the issue of a more ergonomic workplace should first be discussed with the entrepreneur so that a new seating arrangement can be considered if necessary. That can require changes, which must be considered. In addition, retrofitting desks should benefit any employee who wishes to work in a more flexible and less stressful manner. Improving the working conditions for employees ultimately benefits the company as well.

Sick leave due to neck and back problems would probably be improved by an ergonomic workplace. Many lower-priced, height-adjustable standing desk are mechanically adjustable so that the noise level in the office would not increase. Other models are infinitely adjustable with an electric motor. The height-adjustable standing desk should be optimally adapted to the employee's height and workplace.

With mechanical adjustability, height adjustment is only possible at certain intervals. It is not infinitely adjustable. This can be unfavourable in individual cases. The adjustment of the mechanically movable attachment costs power. In this case, a motor-driven standing desk is required.

The two most important improvements in the workplace concern the neck and the whole back. A standing posture alleviates back pain and neck tension that can occur after long office days. The hips and legs are also relieved. However, those who work standing should not stand stiff over a longer period of time. He should constantly make slight adjustments to his posture by introducing a leg or consciously standing up while typing or telephoning. This stretches the spine. The circulation is activated and the auxiliary muscles are repeatedly addressed.

However, standing on the phone or writing can also have positive effects on the ability to concentrate and breathing. If the abdomen is no longer squeezed by a seated posture, breathing is much deeper. This improves the oxygen supply and blood circulation in the abdomen. Very few people are aware that the human body is born to move, not to static postures. Everything in it is designed by evolution to cover up to 20 kilometres a day on its own feet.

Standing is a much better posture than sitting. However, a moving working posture would be optimal. However, according to today's standards, this is rarely possible. If the stand is interrupted every now and then by a corridor to the filing cabinet or kitchen, all the better. Standing consumes more calories than sitting. The musculature is trained while standing, albeit in the minimum range. By the way, standing symbolizes openness. Working standing promotes communication between employees.

In addition, it is often observed that an employee standing has a different charisma of competence, specialist knowledge and inner attitude than when sitting. It is also a fact that employees who can temporarily work standing up are in a better mood, more relaxed and more productive. However, it is important to consider a few points so that standing is not as one-sided as sitting. The be-all and end-all of correct standing begins with the insertion of intervals.

Every employee must learn in everyday life to listen to the needs of his or her body. Painful knees and feet, heavy legs or other complaints are signals that should initiate a change in posture at the latest. Tension in the shoulder and neck area indicates that the posture should be changed immediately. When typing, the arms should rest at right angles on the height-adjustable standing desk. If they don't, you can expect cramping muscles.

Frequent changes in position are also recommended when working in a standing position. The tense muscles should be relieved regularly. When standing or sitting, simple exercises can be performed, such as stretching or the stretching of individual muscle groups. Weight shifts, a few knee bends or a short tiptoe position are also helpful. Even the movement of the toes changes something in the organism.

A standing desk can optimally be adjusted in height. However, there are also models that are not height-adjustable. These already have a certain height. However, they cannot be raised or lowered. Such work tables can be found in savings banks, for example.

If this investment has already been made, a height-adjustable standing desk should always be purchased. In the event of health problems, the health insurance funds or the pension provider will cover the costs - for example, after hip implantation in the case of severe overweight or preventively in the event of impending age-related health problems. The disadvantage is that a desk that was previously used is no longer necessary. In addition, it is possible that a successor may not use the functions of the new standing desk at all.

A height-adjustable standing desk is both removable from the desk and height-adjustable in several stages. It therefore offers more flexibility. Above all, however, the cost factor is the most significant difference. An adjustable standing desk is considerably more expensive than an adjustable standing desk. Since not only one employee usually complains about tension and would appreciate an alternative to sitting with increasing age, it could be expensive for the entrepreneur to purchase 10 standing desks at his own expense.

The purchase of the same number of height-adjustable standing desks would be much cheaper. In addition, some height-adjustable standing desk could alternatively only be used by employees who actually have a need for more flexibility. Nowadays, work is often done on a laptop. This can be used mobile. Floating" between the workstations on offer creates more flexibility, more communication, and more movement. In addition, every employee who needs one can afford a height-adjustable standing desk.

With luck, the health insurance company, the professional association or the old-age pension insurance take over the costs for it also still. The health insurance funds thus save costs for physiotherapy treatments, absenteeism or inability to work. The employer has fewer sick days to record. The cardinal question, however, is whether a height-adjustable standing desk is compatible with an employee's workplace. This is the case in most offices, except when many technical devices are located on the desk and space is very limited.

Some questions need to be answered before purchasing a height-adjustable desk top. The most important question is the relationship between body size and the height of the desk top. Table height is also a factor that must be taken into account. It is a good idea to simulate the desired table height for standing work with a stack of books or cardboard boxes. The table top of the attachment should land at the height of the elbows. The right angle of the elbow is the desirable posture.

Question number two is how much space the height-adjustable desk top should offer. The workstation should then be viewed and evaluated. Some desk tops only offer space for a laptop. Others also accommodate a keyboard, a larger screen and a mouse pad with a mouse. Many computer workstations today are equipped with two screens. If these do not fit the targeted attachment model, they are not the right choice.

Standsome Double
Assembling the Standsome Double is simple and uncomplicated.

Many height-adjustable desk tops have a two-stage design. One level is for the keyboard, the second for the screen. Width, depth, adjustable minimum and maximum heights and similar data are relevant for the purchase. The height of the keyboard shelf should be at right angles to the optimal elbow position. The carrying capacity of the height-adjustable desk tops can also be a value that should be considered. The weight of a height-adjustable desk top, on the other hand, is rather negligible. Only under special circumstances is it too high for a thin desk top.

Question number three revolves around the space required in the workspace. When seated, employees take up space for the desk chair, when standing for the stand. The space requirement can be different than before. There must be about 30-50 centimeters of room to move back and to the sides without two employees working back to back and hindering each other by their elbows.

The advantage of electrically operated desk tops is their stepless adjustability. In contrast, a manually adjustable desk top requires some force to adapt - especially when it has been filled with computers and other tools. It also offers only gradual adaptability. This can go past the desired optimum.

The safe and non-slip position of the adjustable attachment should already be given by its weight. Nevertheless, you should also question this detail. However, there are simple solutions for not so non-slip desk tops that prevent them from slipping.

Under certain conditions, the costs are covered by health insurance funds, professional associations or the pension provider. It is important to note that the application for reimbursement must be made BEFORE the purchase of a height-adjustable desk top or standing desk and justified on medical grounds. A refund will be refused retrospectively. It is also important that you contact the insurance company that is actually responsible. Six to eight weeks may elapse before the height-adjustable desk top is approved. This period of time must also be taken into account.

Most health insurance companies decide on the assumption of costs depending on the individual case. However, they only accept the necessity to cover the costs as a preventive service, for example in the case of chronic back problems, which could result in frequent sick leave. It can sometimes be a little quicker if you go to the health insurance company in person and address the urgency of your problem, for example after a cure and to be able to resume work after a sick leave because of back pain.

When it comes to "rehabilitation for participation in working life", health insurance funds such as professional associations often cover a considerable part of the costs for height-adjustable desk tops or standing desks according to government guidelines. In this way, they help to compensate for sickness-related absences or expensive long-term treatment as well as the threat of occupational disability. Subsidies are available for electrically height-adjustable desks up to a maximum of 1,200 euros. A maximum of 435 euros may be expected for ergonomic office swivel chairs.

However, the prerequisites for an application are:

  • A predominantly sedentary activity
  • Health complaints that make sitting for long periods of time a cause for concern
  • And existing health complaints which could lead to incapacity for work or occupational disability

People who have undergone disc or hip surgery, pelvic vein thrombosis, degenerative disc disease, chronic vein problems, sliding vertebrae, lumbalgia, and lumbo-ischialgia or similar complaints will often be reimbursed with a medical certificate or the report of a rehabilitation clinic. The attending physician should recommend a standing desk or a height-adjustable desk top. In addition, the employer's consent should be obtained before purchasing one. In principle, the medical certificate and a cost estimate of the dealer should be submitted with the application.

In order to be able to submit an application to the pension insurance for the assumption of costs, there must be more than 15 contribution years. In addition, a permit can also be obtained if the ability to work is reduced or early retirement is imminent. Furthermore, it may make sense in the context of medical rehabilitation for the pension provider to bear the costs.

In the case of an employers' liability insurance association, costs can be covered if the damage occurred after an occupational or commuting accident and/or if there is evidence of occupational illness.

The Integration Office is only responsible for applications for reimbursement of costs if these are civil servants or students who have at least a 50% disability. Even in the case of disability of 30%, entitlement to payment of costs is deemed to have been granted in accordance with the principle of equal treatment.

Applications can be made to the "Agentur für Arbeit" (Employment Agency) for the assumption of costs if there is an occupational disease but the required 15 contribution years for an application to the pension insurance do not apply.

The standard size of a professional desk is 160 x 80 centimetres. The Workplace Ordinance (ArbStättV) stipulates in its appendix that work surfaces must be designed in such a way that there is room for all work-related activities - and also for the necessary equipment. For example, the work surface in front of the PC keyboard must allow the palms of the hands to be placed on it. Two screens can require space for two keyboards.

The DGUV Information 215-410 on the design of the screen and office workstations becomes more concrete. They require larger desks according to certain activities. If only one laptop is used, the desk surface may be smaller, for example, 120 x 80 centimetres. What is always relevant is that the employee can perform all activities without any space problems.

and his safety and freedom of movement are guaranteed. This also includes changing positions or changing positions, which can be achieved by raising the desk ergonomically.
