The overall impression of Huawei Freebuds 3 is good. The sound is convincing at medium volume levels but decreases significantly at high and low volumes. The phone quality and Bluetooth stability are excellent. In addition, the Freebuds are comfortable to wear but don't have rubber attachments, which means that a tight fit, depending on the ear size, is not guaranteed.
Appearance and equipment
I have tested the Huawei Freebuds 3 in black. The "True Wireless" In-Ear headphones come in a sturdy illustrated box and make a good impression.
Included in delivery are:
- In-Ear headphones
- USB-C charging cable
- Charging case
- Quick guide
- Security and warranty card
Operating the headphones
The headphones are already preloaded so that you can start right away. To connect the headphones to your mobile phone, for example, simply remove them from the charger to activate pairing mode. Now search for "Freebuds 3" in your Bluetooth settings and connect. Now insert the headphones.
The headphones are then operated via your smartphone or via the gesture control. By default, tapping twice on the right side fast-forwards a song and on the left side activates/deactivates noise reduction.
The Freebuds 3 have a corresponding app. This app is only available for Android. In this app, you can assign gesture control individually and adjust noise cancelling. Pictures of this can be found in the gallery above. Volume settings are unfortunately not available as gesture control and must therefore always be made on the phone.
The headphones sit comfortably and very light in the ear. They are hardly noticeable once you have inserted them. However, there are also no rubber attachments for these headphones, which means that a firm fit, depending on the size of the ear, is not guaranteed.
The sound of the Huawei Freebuds 3 is generally okay. In general, low, mid and high frequencies are balanced. At lower volumes, however, volume and bass are clearly missing. This is sufficient at medium volumes. Here, the mids are also very clear and the trebles are clear. However, the sound quickly becomes unbalanced at higher volumes, with slightly distorted highs and an overall rather tinny sound, in which the bass is no longer appealing, but only loud and exhausting.
Bluetooth stability is very good. At a distance of 10 meters and 4 lightweight walls as a barrier, the connection withstands without problems. Only at 20 meters and a concrete wall in between the signal breaks off. As soon as you get back into the Bluetooth range, the headphones connect automatically and the music starts playing again.
No matter how you have configured the gesture control, an incoming call is always answered or ended by double-tapping the right headset. The person you are talking to is very easy to understand via the Freebuds 3. He also understands you clearly. Because the Earbuds have an Active Noise Cancelling function, possibly disturbing background noise is reduced and therefore a clear conversation is possible.
The transport box also serves as a charging station. The headphones are inserted into the notches, where they are assigned to the left and right and are held securely in the box by a magnet. The lid of the box is also closed by a magnetic mechanism.
The charging box provides the headphones with up to 16 hours more battery life. This corresponds to a 4-fold charging of the headphones.
A micro-USB cable is included in the scope of delivery, with which the box can be recharged. This has a length of 102 cm. An adapter for the cable is not included. Next to the charging socket, there is an LED which indicates the charging status of the box.
