All in all, the Audio Cambridge Melomania 1 makes a good impression. Sound and phone quality are good and the excellent Bluetooth stability stands out. For the wearing comfort, there are deductions, because wearing it becomes uncomfortable quickly. The battery life is 9 hours and the charging case offers another 36 hours. The headphones are lightweight and easy to use.
Appearance and equipment
I have tested the Audio Cambridge Melomania 1 in black. The "True Wireless" In-Ear headphones come in a sturdy illustrated box and make a good impression.
In the scope of delivery are:
- In-ear headphones
- Micro-USB charging cable
- Charging case
- Rubber attachments in the sizes S, M, L and a memory foam version
- Quick Start Guide
- Security and warranty card
Operating the headphones
Before you can use the headphones, you first need to charge them for at least half an hour. To connect the headphones to your mobile phone, for example, simply take them out of the charger case and press the button on one of the two headphones for 2 seconds to activate pairing mode. Now search for "Melomania L//Cambridge" or "Melomania R//Cambridge" in your Bluetooth settings and connect. Now you put the headphones on.
The headphones are then operated via your smartphone or via the buttons on the two headphones. By default, tapping twice on the right side of the screen will fast forward a song and tap twice on the left side to rewind a song. Pressing once on either side has the Play/Pause function. To change the volume, you have to keep the buttons pressed (louder on the right, softer on the left).
In terms of wearing comfort, these Earbuds take some getting used to. The rubber headband is the only support in the ear canal and although these fit tightly, they are somewhat thin so that the hard plastic headphones underneath can be felt after wearing them for a long time and wearing them becomes uncomfortable. It helps to push the headphones not quite so deep into the ear canal, but then they won't sit so tight and fall out of the ears easily. The memory foam attachments have not given me any improvement.
The sound of the Audio Cambridge Melomania 1 is good. In general, lows, mids and highs are balanced. The sound volume is preserved at low volumes and at high volumes neither the bass nor the treble overdrive. However, the bass isn't very appealing and in general, the sound image seems a bit flat. In addition, the music is not played evenly over both headphones.
Bluetooth stability is very good. With a distance of 10 meters and 4 lightweight walls as a barrier, the connection withstands without problems. Only at 20 meters and a concrete wall in between does the signal stop. As soon as you get back into Bluetooth range, the headphones automatically connect and the music starts playing again.
An incoming call is answered by simply tapping one of the buttons. The conversation partner can be understood very well via the Melomania 1. However, you will be heard at your partner's home a little quiet and muffled. All in all, however, it is possible to conduct a trouble-free conversation.
The transport box also serves as a charging station. The headphones are inserted into the notches, where they are assigned to the left and right and are held securely in the box by a magnet. The lid of the box is also closed by a magnetic mechanism.
The charging box offers the headphones up to 36 hours more battery life. This corresponds to a 4-fold charge of the headphones.
A micro-USB cable is included in the scope of delivery, with which the box can be recharged. This has a length of 30 cm. An adapter for the cable is not included. On the outside of the box, there are 5 LEDs indicating the battery status of the box.
