2nd place: Logitech P710e

The P710e from Logitech conference speaker makes a good processed impression. The quality of the sound is quite good, some words are swallowed and there is a permanent background noise. Most of the time, however, the words/sounds are reproduced clearly. The device has an integrated holder for mobile phones or tablets. In addition, the speaker has a cable compartment to wind up the USB cable and a protective bag, which is included in the delivery.

3rd place: Jabra Speak 710

The Speak 710 by Jabra is a high quality looking small device with a speaker that makes speech sound very good.

Music is played a bit poorly and the microphone is also very noisy and echoing. But the setup is very easy.

4th place: eMeet M0 Conference Speaker

The M0 Conference loudspeaker from eMeet was particularly convincing due to its compactness. The conference speaker does not have an integrated battery, so you can only use it when it is connected to the mains. Also, the device has no Bluetooth function. If you are in the immediate vicinity of the microphones, the spoken words are clear and easy to understand. The further away you are, the worse the quality will be and a slight noise will be noticeable. The four microphones are sensitive to noise. The direction from which the sound comes is indicated on the LED ring.

5th place: Konftel EGO

The conference loudspeaker Konftel-EGO from Konftel is well-designed and manufactured with high quality materials. Included in the delivery is a protective bag. The packaging is made of recycled paper and no plastic has been used. The quality of the sound is good, there is a slight noise in the background, which doesn't really influence the sound quality. The speaker has an LCD display that tells you the current status.

6th place: Jabra Speak 510

The conference speaker Speak 510 from Jabra is not of such a high manufacturing quality. The sound quality is also not so good, there is a constant noise in the background. Furthermore, you have the feeling that the other people are standing very far away from the microphone like in a warehouse or other place where the reverberation is especially strong. Nevertheless, you are able to hold a conference and to understand each other.

When you are working in the office, there are many useful devices that can improve your everyday work routines. This includes conference speakers. Because of them, communication in the office is much easier. Several people can be present at the same time without being present. But what other advantages and features do conference speakers offer, and what should you keep in mind when you buy them?

Conference speakers are a solution for conference calls that do not require a headset or something similar. The speakers are small and compact systems that can be connected to other media like PCs, tablets or smartphones. USB and Bluetooth usually are the connection options. In addition to the integrated loudspeaker, conference speakers also have an integrated microphone. By using conference loudspeakers, important meetings can be held without all participants having to be at the same location. This saves a lot of time.

The conference speakers are controlled via integrated control panels or keys that can be used to start and end calls. The volume can also be adjusted via the control panels. In addition to the control panels, high-quality models can also be controlled via smartphone. All you need to do is connect the conference loudspeaker to the smartphone.

The biggest advantage of conference loudspeakers is the flexibility they provide during conferences. Because of them, not all participants have to sit in the same room. They allow different participants to work as required while communicating with each other at the same time. It is also possible to receive conference participants who are in a completely different location, for example abroad. This process is made possible because the conference loudspeaker is only used as an intermediate medium. While some of the conference participants are sitting in the office, the other part can take part in the conference by telephone.

Conference speakers can, however, also be a useful addition to the office if the work efficiency has to be optimised. Traditional meetings require attendees to attend. This means that all participants are sitting in the same room, but they cannot do any other tasks. Conference speakers can solve this problem and increase employee effectiveness. While the conference is in progress, each participant can perform his or her actual task. When it comes to time management, there is almost no alternative. Not to forget the low cost factor. Since good models can already be purchased from 100 Euros upwards, the benefit is ultimately significantly higher than the expenditure.

Beyond that there exist only conditionally other possibilities of accomplishing a conference with several participants, who are not in the same room. A frequently used option is a telephone conference using a third-party provider. These bring people together in a virtual room so they can communicate by using their phone. However, the cost of such services is typically quite high, especially for frequent use. In addition, most providers charge very high fees for conferences with participants abroad. In any case, a conference loudspeaker is the better and, above all, cheaper alternative to save costs and effort.

Some models also have interfaces to connect additional microphones. This is especially important when there is a large number of people in a room taking part in a conference and they are sitting or standing far away from each other. The additional microphones ensure that every participant in the conference can be clearly understood. The same applies to the connection of other output devices. If there are many participants on site and distributed throughout the room, the conference speaker can be connected with additional loudspeakers. This provides good acoustics for all conference topics. In order to guarantee the sound quality of all participants, echo and noise suppression are the most important features of good conference speakers. They ensure that the conversation runs smoothly and that no disturbing noises interrupt the conferences.

Current and high-quality models also feature Near Field Communications technology. Thanks to this technology, it is sufficient to hold the smartphone to the conference loudspeaker and a Bluetooth connection is automatically made between the two devices. In addition to Bluetooth, all models offer a further interface like a USB port or jack plug.

Conference loudspeakers are very compact and can easily be taken anywhere and also used for other purposes. If you're not in the middle of a conference, you can simply connect your smartphone to the speaker and listen to music. For optimal speaker placement, most models have a built-in bracket. This allows the speaker not only to be mounted, but also to be fixed at an optimal angle if required.

An important factor to consider to buy a conference speaker is undoubtedly the price. Hardly any other technical product has greater price differences depending on the equipment. Some models are already in the price category below 100 euros, while particularly high-quality models can cost more than 1,000 euros. The difference is mainly in the functional range and the sound quality, which can be reproduced and recorded with the loudspeaker. Those who are willing to spend more should pay attention to the quality of the sound. Expensive models should also be worth their price and have a natural HD sound. If this is not the case, the sound quality can suffer significantly.

It is also worth taking a look at the features of the integrated microphone. During the conference you want to make sure that all participants are clearly understood. Since the participants often sit in different rooms, special microphones are necessary to guarantee the speech quality of all conference participants. However, most models allow them to be easily connected to the conference speaker and distributed throughout the room, as long as a 360° microphone is not included.

Often conference speakers are also used during business trips. This can be the case, for example, at trade fairs or important business meetings. If there is no socket for the loudspeaker, the conversation falls flat. If you're frequently traveling and rely on telephone or video conferencing, the battery life of the wireless models also plays an important role. For this reason, you should make sure that the conference loudspeaker of your choice is powered by a rechargeable battery. The models hardly vary in terms of battery life. Almost all current models provide a talk time of up to 20 hours.

In order to ensure that the conference runs as smoothly as possible, you should pay attention to a further aspect when you decide to buy. Conference loudspeakers are primarily intended for important conversations within a company. In order to optimize possible discussions and also to make the transmission of pictures possible, programs were developed such as Skype for Business or Microsoft Lync. Some manufacturers have therefore decided to optimize their products for certain programs. If you use one of these programs for your conferences, it's important to make sure that the speaker of your choice is optimized for that program. In practical terms, this gives you some important advantages. On the one hand, the transfer of sound files is optimized this way, on the other hand you can even control the programs by voice using the conference loudspeakers.

During a conference it is often important that the participants are able to see each other. In order to make communication possible in this way, there are different programs such as Skype for Business. These, however, require an appropriate hardware. Whether smartphone, laptop or PC - a frontal camera should always be available so that you can use the full range of conference speakers.

As an alternative to video conferencing, compact conference devices can also be used. These have a similar structure to standard conference loudspeakers, but have additional modules that support the conference. They can contain control elements which can be used to regulate the volume and to switch participants on or off. In addition to that, there are a few models that have an integrated camera with an image reproduction up to 4K resolution. If you are looking for compact solutions, this is definitely the right thing for you. However, it should be mentioned that the prices for potential models are quite high.

If you don't want to rely on conference loudspeakers, you have further options to get in touch with several people in the office. Especially if the participants are in different rooms and the audio is reproduced via the conference loudspeakers, there is a risk that other people may be able to listen in. To ensure that this does not happen, it makes sense to use headsets. These can be connected to the conference loudspeaker in the same way as external loudspeakers. In this way, you can prevent third parties recording conference content.

How do we test at askgeorge.com?

Live and authentic: We get the devices into our Hamburg test laboratory. Here we take a close look at everything.

Each test is preceded by an extensive search:

  • Which suppliers are on the market?
  • What current products are there?
  • What are the comparison criteria?
  • What tests are we going to run?
  • What is the test procedure?

When everything's settled, we'll bring the devices to us. For each product the test procedure, the measured values and product properties are documented in detail. We create photos and videos. We evaluate the results for you, summarize everything in a test report and calculate the test grade.

Have fun!
