The BenQ MH535 with its very good image quality and brightness is an ideal conference room projector. But also the playback of movies is possible with this beamer without any problems. Only the sound quality of the integrated loudspeaker is disappointing.
The BenQ MH535 Conference Room Projector with DLP technology is high quality processed and has a resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels. Thanks to the 3 height-adjustable rubber feet, the beamer always stands securely and can be optimally aligned to the projection surface. Focusing is done manually via the focus wheel. In addition, this beamer has a manual zoom.
Either the buttons on the top of the beamer or the remote control can be used for operation. All connections are located on the back of the unit. The available inputs and outputs are:
- 2 x HDMI
- 2x VGA
- Monitor Out
- USB Type mini B
- Composite Video
- Audio Out
- Audio In
The projector has four projection modes: front, rear, ceiling front, and ceiling rear. The MH535 also has vertical keystone correction up to +/- 40°.
For sound reproduction, this beamer has an integrated 2 W loudspeaker.
To determine the brightness of the BenQ MH535, I measured the illuminance at nine defined points on the maximum level and white test pattern. I used a lux meter for this. The mean value of these measurements and the projection area can then be used to calculate the luminous flux in lumens. With this device, the luminous flux results with an average illuminance of 966 lux and an area of 0.975 m² to 942 lumens. The brightness of 3500 lumens specified by the manufacturer could therefore not be confirmed. However, the brightness is sufficient to produce a good image in dark and bright ambient conditions.
In order to compare the image quality of the beamers in our test, we have developed a test image. This image can be used to evaluate brightness, contrast and colour representation.
First, I tested the image in a darkened room. The image is razor-sharp. Thanks to the integrated colour correction and wall colour correction, a natural colour representation can be easily found. In a dark room, brightness and contrast are good enough to display dark images.
The image of the MH535 is also very good in bright rooms. Even dark pictures can still be seen well.
Due to the high resolution, the display of writing is no problem for this beamer. It is suitable for presentations in this respect.
Zoom and focus are manually adjusted via two wheels on this beamer. This works without any problems.
The MH535 is operated via a very intuitive remote control. The buttons on the upper side can also be used for easy adjustment and commissioning. The individual buttons react without any problems. The menu can be used to set the display mode, projection mode, and keystone correction. In addition, brightness and contrast can be adjusted in 100 steps. The various colour adjustments can also be made via the menu.
Unfortunately, the navigation through the menu is a little bit getting used to and laborious.
I measured the heating of the beamer during operation with our thermal imaging camera directly at the opening of the fan. In our tests, the MH535 reached a temperature of up to 68 °C.
Volume and sound quality
The fan of the BenQ MH535 Conference Room Projector is very quiet. At a distance of one meter, I measured a volume of 40 dB and at a distance of 20 cm next to the fan, the volume is 46 dB. As soon as there is sound in addition to the picture, the fan can no longer be heard.
The integrated 2 Watt loudspeaker creates a maximum volume of approx. 60 dB. The sound quality is not outstanding. No bass is audible and the sound is somewhat distorted and tinny. Therefore, if you want to enjoy movies with this beamer, you should rather connect external speakers.
The beamer has a 3D function, for which you need special glasses. We did not include this function in this test.
