This printer is very easy to use but unfortunately the quality of the photos is not very good.

The Polaroid ZIP Handydrucker is a small portable mini photo printer with ZINK printing technology. This is the same printing technology used in the HP Sprocket and Canon Zoemini. Compared to the other printers, this machine is very fast with 37 seconds of print time. Less good is the print quality. The images are very dark and less colour intensive.
The Polaroid ZIP Handydrucker has a handy size with dimensions of 11.9 x 7.4 x 2.3 cm and a weight of approx. 250 g. Included in the delivery are 10 pictures in the appropriate size. The format of the pictures is 5 x 7.6 cm. As soon as the 10 images have been printed, new images must be purchased. These are available among other things in the 20er-Pack for a price of approx. 12€. The price per picture is about 0,60€. This is in comparison with the other printers a mediocre value. The pictures are printed with the ZINK printing process ink-free. Cartridges or ink do not have to be taken care of. The images are also self-adhesive. A foil can be easily removed from the picture and the picture can be glued into a photo album. Also included is a USB charging cable (USB A to Micro-USB) with which the printer can be charged. Optionally, a travel bag can also be purchased.
First, the photo printer must be charged. All you need to do is plug the supplied cable into a USB port on your computer. Of course, the printer can also be charged on a normal power supply with an additional power supply unit. The green light next to the mini-USB connector indicates whether the device is already fully charged. If this light is still red, the photo printer is not yet fully charged. However, the photo printer can also be used if it has not yet been fully charged for the first time. As you progress, press the on/off switch until a white light illuminates. Now the printer is switched on. Then the enclosed photo paper must be inserted: with the blue barcode and the paper logos facing down.
The app Polaroid ZIP can be downloaded from Apple's App Store and Google Play. The app is also optimized for the iPad. To use this printer it is necessary to register first name, date of birth and email. However, the app can be used immediately after entering the data. In our case, it was also necessary to update to the latest firmware. A Quick-Start-Guide within the application shows all functions. The smartphone must then be connected to the printer via Bluetooth.
The Bluetooth connection is always activated on the printer when the printer is switched on. An NFC connection is also possible. In order to be able to use all other functions, the app must be given some permissions to access the photos and the camera.
All photos from the gallery can then be selected directly in the app. The application also has its own camera function, but this does not offer many setting options. Once an image has been selected or shot, the photo can still be edited. So the app offers the possibility to make emojis, stickers, text, filters and other image edits like brightness or saturation settings. You can also create collages with other images. Shortly before printing, the photo must then be scaled in the print preview to fit the print format. If the printer is connected at this time, the image is usually printed within 40 seconds. It is also possible to select several images simultaneously, which are then printed one after the other.
Most users will print their photos directly from their smartphone. It is also possible to sign in to the app using Facebook, Instagram and Google Photos. This allows you to directly access and print all Instagram or Google Photos albums without going through the smartphone gallery.
Note: Many reviewers on the Internet complain that the app does not work. However, the app has been reworked in the meantime and works, as our test shows.
The images are printed on ZINK paper using ZINK printing technology. This allows them to be picked up and viewed immediately. The images are printed comparatively dark and are less saturated. This makes them look less natural. Some criticize that these photos do not have a typical Analog look. The advantage of these pictures is that they can be printed completely borderless. So the whole image area can be used.
We have evaluated about 200 reviews on the Internet. In summary, it can be said that about 60 percent of buyers are satisfied (4 stars) or even very satisfied (5 stars). Partially (2 stars) or completely dissatisfied are a good 30 percent of the users. The average score at the time of the evaluation was 3.5 out of 5 stars.
The following points were positively noted:
- Does not require ink or replacement cartridges
- Beautiful design
- Fast commissioning
The following points were noted negatively:
- Poor image quality
- The app does not work or works badly
Note: The app has been updated and improved. In our test, there were no problems with the app.
