The backpack DAKINE - 08130057 Campus 33l Backpack is a very large backpack, which is also more suitable for larger persons than for smaller ones. It comes with a big bag, 3 small ones and a laptop compartment to carry your belongings. The lack of padding both in the bag for the laptop and on the outside for carrying comfort alone makes the rating somewhat worse.
The DAKINE - 08130057 Campus 33l Backpack is delivered in the ordered colour and size and arrives undamaged.
Optics, compartments and material
Optically this model is kept in a dark grey. From the inside, the backpack is light-grey and black. The compartment for the laptop is located in the only large compartment and is sewn into the back without padding. Inside the large compartment, there are no other small compartments. Outside there are a total of 3 compartments, which are all meant for smaller things. There is also a bottle compartment on each side.
According to the washing list, the materials are made of 100% polyester and feel firm so that rain can at least be repelled for a short time. The backpack is closed with zippers attached to each compartment.
At the front, there is a small cooling compartment in which cans or small drinks can be stowed.
If you spray the backpack with water near the zipper, the water will roll off the fabric directly. The zipper is not very tight and the contents underneath get wet. If the water is wiped off, the fabric remains slightly damp and should dry well.
Material robustness and cleaning
In order to test the material resistance, we pulled the backpack over normal asphalt floors. After approx. 10 meters the backpack floor is only dirty but not noticeably roughened. The cleaning is easy afterwards.
Comfort and handling
The wearing comfort of the Dakine backpack is only partly pleasant. The back section is too large for small people and there is a hollow space between the back and the backpack. Neither the straps nor the back is padded, which makes carrying a little more uncomfortable. A chest strap is put together at the front. The shorter you pull the straps after putting them on, the easier it is to carry the backpack, as everything is closer to the back in the best case.
To check the stability, we have placed the backpack once empty and once full. If possible, it should not have to lean against the back so that you can park the backpack in a dirtier or wet area without dirtying it from the front or on the carrier side.
If the backpack is not filled, it is only lying down and cannot stand. When the backpack is full (7 kg in total), it will only remain unstable.
The laptop compartment is rather loose and only protects the laptop roughly, as it is separated from the other things in the large compartment, but sits wobbly in the laptop compartment.
The maximum size of the laptop is 15 inches, everything beyond that does not fit into the compartment. Even at 15 inches, the laptop looks a bit out of the compartment. The bag is cut quite wide so that the laptop folds away backwards and doesn't lie very close to the back anymore. This makes it a bit harder to carry.
Even though there are more things than the laptop in the backpack, the laptop is still quite well protected and can be transported from one workplace to another.
The backpack can be used for anything where you need to carry something. Whether it's shopping, school or university files or just the things you spend for a weekend away from home. You get a lot in the backpack underneath and can transport it comfortably. Since the backpack is so wide and you can pull the zippers wide, you can get close to all things, even if they are further down.
