The Cider Making Kit by Braufässchen is a fun gift for all those who have always wanted to make their own cider. The individual steps are well explained in the instructions and are easy to follow.
With a short application time and a week to wait, it does not take long for the homemade cider to be ready for tasting. The first time you taste it, you quickly notice that something is missing. The drink is completely non-carbonated and therefore more like an apple wine than a cider.
The Cider Making Kit by Braufässchen is delivered in attractive packaging. The instructions are in German and many other languages, illustrated and clearly understandable. In addition to the scope of delivery, you need a measuring cup.
Scope of delivery
- 1 empty 5-litre barrel as fermentation container
- 1 bag of fruit juice concentrate
- 1 pack yeast
- 1 bottle aroma mixed with a sweetener
- 1 pressure valve
- 1 instruction manual
Once you have opened the packaging and removed all the ingredients and materials supplied, you must first remove the transparent lid on the top of the barrel. You will need the lid again later, so keep it safe. Pour the fruit juice concentrate into the barrel. Then pour 400 ml of cold water into the barrel with the measuring cup. Afterwards, add another 1 l of boiling water. It is advisable to boil a little more water so that you can sterilize the pressure valve. Now the transparent lid can be used again. In order to mix the liquids optimally, put the lid back on the opening and shake the barrel vigorously for about 30 seconds. Now pour in 2.8 l of water and add the yeast and the sweetened aroma. Finally, close the opening of the barrel with the supplied pressure valve.
You must now store the barrel for 5 days at room temperature as unmoved and protected from light as possible. During these 5 days, the yeast works hard and converts the sugar contained in the juice concentrate into carbonic acid and alcohol. Then put the barrel upright in the refrigerator for at least 2 days. After a total of 7 days the production of your own cider is finished, the barrel can now be opened and the cider consumed.
The taste of the end product of the Cider Making Kit is reminiscent of white wine with a sweet apple aroma. The decisive factor for this is that the sparkling apple wine has no carbonic acid, as is normally the case with a cider. Nevertheless, I would not refuse a glass of the cider I made myself. Especially if one knows what to expect, one can go along with the soft drink and enjoy it on a nice summer evening.
