The Crock-Pot is what one would call a good slow cooker. The temperature control is good and the handles hardly heat up, even if the case gets a little hot. This means that the heating is average. However, our recipe is the best in this cooker and we can definitely recommend it for use.
The Crock-Pot is delivered in an attractively designed box containing the most important information. The Slow Cooker itself is secured with two polystyrene inserts. The packaging also contains a few additional kitchen utensils protected with plastic: a ladle and two cooking spoons, all made of plastic.
The outer part of the appliance is made of red stainless steel and the removable pot is made of black earthenware. The lid is made of glass. When removed, the Slow Cooker feels very good in quality and unlike some competitor models, it does not smell of plastic.
A 220 V cable is integrated directly into the Slow Cooker. The package also contains the instructions for use, which are well written in 14 languages. It contains illustrations or pictures that visually illustrate the structure and use of the unit and you can read recipe suggestions. This makes it much easier to understand how to use it.
The additional guarantee is 2 years from the date of purchase.
The delivery includes:
- Slow Cooker with removable pot and lid
- Instruction manual
- A ladle
- Two cooking spoons
The Crock-Pot should be connected to the power supply as soon as there is enough space around it. The Slow Cooker is equipped with a temperature controller at the front. The following settings can be operated on this: "Off", "Low", "High" and "Warm".
To start cooking, simply set the controller to the desired cooking time and the heating process starts automatically.
In "Low" mode, the ingredients are cooked more slowly. This means fewer vitamins are destroyed and the cooking process is gentler on food. The "High" setting is particularly suitable if you haven't cooked too much time or, for example, the corresponding ingredient has already been pre-cooked or fried. An automatic switch-off function is not integrated; the appliance must be reset to "Off" automatically if the cooking process is to be terminated.
We have tested all Slow Cookers with the same recipe, namely Pulled Pork. For this, we placed about 700 g marinated shoulder of pork together with 250 ml apple juice in the pot and stewed it. To find out how hot the cooker gets, we set the appliance to "High" mode and cooked the meat in it for 4 1/2 hours. In between, we recorded the heating of the handles with an infrared thermometer.
With the Crock-Pot these hardly became warm with the time. The thermometer records a value of only 37 °C, which almost corresponds to body temperature. Both the outer handles and the handle of the lid heat up a little, which makes it seem as if they are thermally insulated. We notice this very positively. We checked the heating of the case with the thermal camera. At the same time, we created a graphic that shows the rise in temperature inside the device. For this, we filled all devices with 2 litres of water and read the heat state in 15 minutes intervals from the thermometer.
After a cooking time of 4 hours, the casing was heated to about 90 °C. The temperature was then lowered to the minimum.
This is already very warm compared to other devices. However, the Slow Cooker proved in our temperature test that it heats up properly inside. When heating up in "High" mode, it was found that the cooker heats up to a maximum of 95 °C. This is the maximum temperature the cooker can reach. After 2 hours of cooking time, it had a temperature of about 63 °C.
In "Low" mode, the temperature does not exceed 100 °C as it should be. It heats up by 54 degrees within two hours, which is already a strong temperature rise. You can see the graph here:
The Slow Cooker scored very well when testing the degree of cooking. The meat was very tender and almost disintegrated by itself before it was plucked.
In this test, however, we placed more emphasis on the application and functions, and above all on heating. That's why we took the cooking degree out of the rating. It was more important for us to know whether the Slow Cooker really keeps its promises and does not heat up to over 100 °C even after several hours of cooking, as the important vitamins in the food are then lost. The Slow Cooker is convincing in this respect.
The Slow Cooker should only be cleaned after it has cooled down completely according to the instructions for use. The outside of the heating pot can be cleaned with a soft cloth and soapy water. The housing must then be dried. The earthenware pot can be washed in warm soapy water or in the dishwasher. In contrast to the ceramic pots of the competition, which all have to be cleaned by hand, this is a big advantage. The cleaning is so clearly simplified here and makes the use of the device all the more recommendable.
We have evaluated about 300 reviews on the internet. In summary, it can be said that about 90 percent of buyers are satisfied (4 stars) or even very satisfied (5 stars). Partially (2 stars) or completely dissatisfied are a good 5 percent of the users. The average score at the time of the evaluation was 4.5 out of 5 stars.
