Convinces with several functions, simple handling, and easy cleaning.

The device

The Russell Hobbs rice cooker comes in a large illustrated box.

The first impression of the frame is of very high-quality. It also has a non-stick cooking pot, rice spoon, measuring cup and steam basket.

In addition, an operating manual is included, written in German and twenty-two other languages. This is written in great detail, but in some places, it is somewhat misleading.

The rice cooker is very easy to use.

All you have to do is adding water and rice to the pot, and due to the automatic switch-off and the burning protection, you no longer have to worry about anything.

As soon as the rice is cooked, the appliance automatically switches to keep it warm.

Included in the scope of delivery:

  • Steam cooker insert
  • Rice spoon
  • Measuring jug
  • Instruction manual
  • Saucepan

The application

The handling of the rice cooker is quite simple.

Before using the appliance for the first time, clean the bowl and lid with warm soapy water, rinse everything off and allow the parts to dry.

Then you have to measure the desired amount of rice (in this case 500 g jasmine rice) with the help of the provided measuring cup, here there were four up to the top filled measuring cups. For the amount of water, one should use one cup of water for each cup of rice.

Next, pour the rice into the inner bowl of the cooker and add the appropriate amount of water.

Then you put the lid on the pot, connect the cable to the power supply, switch on the appliance and move the front control lever to the lowest position. Then the control light should light up red.

It takes 10 minutes for the water to start boiling, and 5 minutes for the rice to boil, it also begins to smell very pleasantly of fresh rice.

After a total of 22 minutes, the rice is ready to cook and automatically switches to WARMING. Then let the rice steep for another 10 minutes before switching off the cooker and removing the power cable.

In comparison to the other rice cookers tested, it is noticeable that the appliance makes quite loud noises for the first two minutes after being switched on, but these stop again.

One can now carefully lift the lid and drain the accumulated condensation water, but it is best to put on oven gloves here, as the lid of the pot is very warm and otherwise one can easily burn oneself. Then you can remove the pot from the rice cooker and position it on a heat-resistant surface.

After the rice has been cooked, the temperature at the edge of the lid is 80 °C and the temperature at the rack is 50 °C. The rice can then be cooked on a heat-resistant surface.

With the included rice spoon you can carefully loosen the rice and serve it afterwards.

In comparison to another tested rice cooker, the rice hardly sticks to the bottom of the pot and is very easy to loosen.

With this rice cooker, it is also possible to use it as a steam cooker for vegetables, meat and the like, and you will also find a detailed description in the operating instructions. The steam cooker was used here to cook carrots, but unfortunately, they didn't really cook in 20 minutes because they weren't cut small enough.

We also tested this rice cooker with 1 kg Basmati rice, but we noticed that some rice grains were slightly burnt at the bottom of the pot, which is rather negative depending on the desired preference.

Before cleaning the pot, it is essential to wait until everything has cooled down completely and make sure that the power cord has been completely removed.

It is also possible to clean the pot in warm rinsing water, which makes cleaning very easy.
