The VonShef - Manual Pasta Machine has many accessories and is well suited for people who want to try out the production of pasta. In terms of quality, the pasta machine can't quite keep up with the competition, you notice that it is slightly unstable and that the edges are very sharp. During testing, metal residues were found in the dough, but this was repaired after the first two rolling operations and is due to the first use. It is a pity that the noodles were not properly separated and the result was faulty.

The device

The VonShef - Manual Pasta Machine is delivered in a natural-coloured cardboard box, in which the individual parts are additionally packed in white, unmarked cardboard boxes. The elements are also individually wrapped in bubble wrap and plastic. The packaging does not give any information about the contents and the high amount of plastic can also be noticed negatively. The pasta machine is made of stainless steel and held in a silver tone. The handles are black. When removing the pasta machine does not feel as good qualitatively as the competition.

The cutting attachments are packed separately, so the pasta machine has to be assembled before use. Crank and screw clamp are also packed separately and must be attached to the respective devices for use. These procedures are well described in the instructions for use.

The additional warranty only becomes valid when you register online on the website using the link in the instructions for use. Information about the duration of this warranty is not given.

The delivery includes:

  • The pasta machine
  • Two cutting attachments intended for different pasta variations, such as spaghetti, ribbon noodles, lasagne leaves and ravioli
  • One crank
  • A screw clamp to attach the machine to the table
  • A user and maintenance manual
  • A dough-cutting roll
  • A gadget for measuring pasta

The VonShef - Manual pasta machine must first be attached to the table. It is noticeable that the table clamp is not suitable for thick work surfaces. Then you should clean it with a small piece of your dough, according to the instructions, by turning it often through the roller to remove any residue. When you have finished, discard the piece of dough.

At the beginning of pasta making, your dough must be uniform. To do this, set the roll thickness to 1 by gently pulling the wheel outwards and then turning it. Attach the crank to the intended position, place the dough in the roller and start cranking. It is advisable to spread the dough on a board so that it does not compress and stick. Once your dough has passed through the roller, sprinkle it with flour on both sides and fold it in the middle. Repeat the process 4-5 times according to the instructions so that your dough is nicely even.

When you are finished, set the roller one step higher to 2 and crank the dough through it. You can dust it with flour from time to time to prevent it from sticking in the machine. This time do not fold the dough, but set the roller to level 3 and crank the dough through again. Repeat this until you have reached the desired dough thickness.

When you are satisfied with the thickness of your dough, you can start making the noodles using the cutting attachments. You put your dough into the cutting attachment from above and crank it at the same time. It is advisable to place a bowl or a second board under the machine so that the pasta is collected directly.

After the dough has been cut and you have made the finished pasta, flour it and pluck it as thoroughly as possible so that it does not clump.

The result

Unfortunately, the Manual pasta machine shows that the linguines are not cut evenly. Only every second pasta is separated from the other. The noodles took longer to cook and did not have the desired width. On the positive side, however, there were hardly any residues in the dough which could occasionally occur during the first use.

Cleaning a pasta machine takes a lot of time. Under no circumstances should the machine be placed in the dishwasher or washed with water! It is recommended to use a brush or a wooden stick for cleaning. However, neither one nor the other is supplied. If you have neither of these at home, the rough cleaning also works with a kitchen towel, but you can't get rid of all the dough without unscrewing the machine. The cutting inserts are held in place by tension clamps, which can only be removed by unscrewing the housing. A suitable screwdriver is unfortunately not included. It is important to remove the combs in order to remove all dough residue. Cleaning the machine is very time-consuming, but thorough cleaning is recommended, as any dough that remains will harden quickly, clump together and thus shorten the life of the machine, and could make it difficult to use it properly.

Overview: Pasta Machine

How do you like this product?

What experience have you had with the pasta machine?
Unfortunately no good experiences. Had it given to my son for Christmas, after a short time the coating flaked off the roll and the dough turned silver. Then I sent it back.
Can someone explain to me how raviolis works? Unfortunately, it is not in the manual.
Roll out a pasta web, place the filling in the middle of the machine between the webs, turn, done. (Note: The production of the ravioli is described in the instructions for use. Roll out the dough to level 8 or 9. Attach the ravioli attachment and pass the dough through for cutting. Pour the filling into the dough with a spoon and then glue two halves of ravioli together using egg yolk. Then boil in salted water.)
Is it possible to make spaghetti with the machine?
Spaghetti can be made, but they have a slightly angular shape.
Is the ravioli attachment included in the scope of delivery?
Yes, it is included.
