Resumee

The Multi-cooker Mein Hans von Rommelsbacher is a real multi-talent thanks to its many features. Thanks to the steam pressure function, it enables meat dishes to be prepared quickly. Unfortunately, it takes about 13 minutes for the pressure to build up. The cookbook also allows you to prepare original dishes without any cooking experience. Sadly, there are no pre-programmed recipes, so unskilled chefs have to rely on the instructions or the cookbook. Another disadvantage is that there is a risk of burns if the steam is released.

Pro

  • Fast preparation under steam pressure
  • Up to 24 hours time delay
  • Intuitive operation
  • Automatic warming
  • The food is quickly and successfully prepared
  • Fully removable lid
  • Spare sealing ring in accessories

Cons

  • The danger of burns when releasing pressure
  • Requires a long time to build up pressure

360° View

Multitalent with perfect results but slow pressure build-up.

The Multikocher Mein Hans von Rommelsbacher is easy to use and allows even inexperienced chefs to prepare tasty and quick meals.

Functions

Mein Hans offers numerous practical functions. With it, you can warm up and keep dishes warm. The warming function starts automatically after the preparation of a dish for one hour and is set to a temperature of 75°C. The warming function is also available as an option. When setting manually, the warm-keeping function will last up to 12 hours.

You can use the appliance to cook, fry, stew, steam or prepare food under vapour pressure. Slow cooking and sous vide cooking are also possible.

Another practical setting is "delayed start", which allows you to start preparing food without being present. Up to 24 hours time delay can be set on the display.

The functionality of the "Mein Hans" multi-cooker can be learned relatively quickly thanks to the good instructions. With the instructions in the cookbook, even unskilled chefs can prepare the dishes or individual ingredients perfectly.

In the menu, you can choose between 14 programmes, the warm-up function and the "MAN" function, which enables manual operation.

Within the programs, you can adjust the preset time and temperature within a range.

For example, when baking 1, you can set the preset time from 45 minutes to 35 minutes or up to 55 minutes. You can also set the temperature between 100-170°C.

In the 'Potatoes' program, for example, cooking takes place automatically at 116°C with steam pressure. Depending on the quantity and type of food (e.g. rice) you have to decide how much water you want to take and which temperature and duration are suitable.

No recipes are programmed in the multi-cooker. These can be viewed in the recipe book for "Mein Hans" or online. With the help of the recipes, you can prepare dishes step by step. The program settings are indicated in the individual steps.

Draining the steam is unmanageable, as the button is located directly next to the pressure relief valve. There is a risk of burns, as it can also splash when the steam is released.

The multi-cooker is equipped with a timer and emits a signal at the end of the cooking time.

Result

Goulash (2 people)

In our test, "Mein Hans" achieved a very good result in the preparation of goulash. The preparation took a total of 43 minutes. In addition, there is the time required for heating/pressure build-up and the time required for cutting vegetables and meat. The instructions in the cookbook are very easy to follow and provide a perfect result. Despite the lean beef, we had a very tender and tasty result. The data for spice and brew quantity are optimally chosen for our sense of taste.

Potatoes (800g)

The potatoes are prepared in the Rommelsbacher multi-cooker under steam pressure and are therefore ready much faster than in a conventional cooking pot. Preparation takes 9 minutes, plus the time required to build up pressure, which takes a full 13 minutes. After this time, the potatoes are perfectly cooked. It is somewhat confusing during the first preparation that during the pressure build-up no time is indicated or the expected duration until the beginning of the steam process is displayed.

Salmon fillet (400g)

In our test, we also prepared salmon fillets according to the instructions of the multi-cookers. The salmon fillets are placed in the steam bowl and prepared under steam pressure in 3 minutes. The pressure build-up takes 13 minutes. The first doubts due to the short preparation time were quickly removed afterwards. After 3 minutes the fillets are done. In our opinion 2:30 minutes would also be sufficient since the fillets were a little too firm for our taste.

Steamed vegetables (zucchini & frozen broccoli)

The multi-cooker prepares steamed vegetables in 15 minutes using the "Steam" function. The Mein Hans needs 11 minutes to heat up/ build up pressure and 4 minutes for the preparation. Both frozen and fresh products do not need much time. The ingredients are simply put into the steam basket. The result is quite respectable. If necessary, the cooking times must be adjusted.

Cake

A cake from the multi-cooker? We have tested it. The lemon poppy cake from the recipe book is successful, but the degree of browning on both sides is very different. The result is tasty but could be a bit lighter.

Cleaning

Cleaning is very easy thanks to the non-stick coating. In addition, all accessories can be cleaned in the dishwasher. Cleaning the saucepan in the dishwasher is not recommended. The lid, sealing ring and other components of the lid must be cleaned by hand. When preparing goulash for 2 people, the lid did not splash and could be rinsed quickly.

Very practical is that the lid can be completely removed. Thus the cleaning is easier than in the other devices.

Instructions

The manual is very clear and easy to understand thanks to the symbols. The illustrations are black and white, making the explanations for cleaning the valve difficult to understand.

In the back of the manual, you will find information on use, duration and food suggestions for each program. Very recommendable is the "Mein Hans" cookbook, which contains original recipes and step-by-step instructions.

Can I put my own yoghurt jars in the multi-cooker to prepare yoghurt in order to avoid decanting?
Avatar
AskGeorge.com
The yoghurt jars can be placed directly in the multi-cooker. It is advisable to place a layer of kitchen paper underneath so as not to damage the non-stick coating. Moreover, 300-600 ml of water should be added to keep the temperature constant. In addition, the lids of the jars must be closed to prevent condensation from dripping into the yoghurt mixture.

Can the temperature or the time be adjusted without interrupting the cooking process or the program?
Avatar
AskGeorge.com
The time and temperature can be set during program selection. Afterwards, they can no longer be adjusted. The correction of time and/or temperature is only possible if the program is stopped and restarted.
