The Rommelsbacher Dehydrator DA 900 makes a high-quality first impression. The device is mainly made of stainless steel. It is delivered with 6 drying trays, as well as a drying grid and a drying base. The power cord is very long and can be wound onto a cable winder at the back of the dehydrator. On the sides of the dehydrator, there are two heat-insulated handles, so that the dehydrator can be safely adjusted at any time.
In itself, the device is somewhat larger and bulkier, but also offers more space and larger drying levels.
Included in delivery:
- Basic unit
- 6 Drying trays (stainless steel)
- 1 Dehydrating grid (made of plastic)
- 1 Drying base (made of plastic)
- Cable rewind
- Instruction manual
Before the first application, you must clean all the drying plates and heat up the heating elements to the highest temperature for 30 minutes. The manual contains a long table with drying times for various fruits, vegetables, herbs, and meat. There you can read the wonderful time, temperature and optional thickness of the pieces for drying.
In the first test, I made apple and banana chips. For this, relatively thin slices have to be cut. The drying time is 7 hours at 60°. The temperature and time can be adjusted via the touch control panel. On an LED light field you can read your remaining time as well as the set temperature during the whole operation.
I distributed the bananas and apple slices on 2 stainless steel drying trays and pushed them with some distance into the automatic drying machines. At the bottom, you can now insert the drying tray in case something falls down during the drying process. This makes cleaning easier.
The result is very satisfactory. The bananas have become crispy and the apples are also slightly crispy, but still flexible and somewhat softer, as is the case with dried apples.
In the second run, I made dried tomatoes. For this, I cut the tomatoes into slices. The tomatoes need 5 hours at 50° to dry completely. Thicker slices were not completely dried yet. So you have to be careful to cut the food into very evenly sized pieces.
The handling of the machine is simple and self-explanatory. The fact that the dehydrator is constructed like an oven means that the heat can easily reach all dehydration levels and thus ensure an even dehydration result.
The cleaning is absolutely easy. All accessories can be cleaned in the dishwasher, but can also be quickly cleaned by hand. The inside of the oven can easily be wiped with a wet cloth.
