The Krups Dolce Gusto Lumio coffee capsule machine is a well working machine and its design makes it a real eye-catcher. The great thing about this device is that the amount of water can also be changed individually, the water tank with its small opening is somewhat more difficult to handle than with the other devices.
The Krups Dolce Gusto Lumio coffee capsule machine, has a modern, organic design and looks very cute in its form. It is very compact and space-saving and a nice eye-catcher in every kitchen.
The device is delivered without capsules, which must be purchased by the customer. It has a water tank with a capacity of 0.95 litres and can be filled with one capsule at a time. The capsule holder can be removed from the device and only then filled with one capsule. The machine is equipped with a collecting grid for swelling liquids, which can be adjusted to two different heights, depending on the cup size. The Krups capsule coffee machine works with the Nescafe Dolce Gusto capsule system, which are available in the supermarket.
The instructions for use are only equipped with pictures and are not very detailed. The operation is quite simple and self-explanatory, but a more informative operating instruction could help.
Before using the device for the first time, the device must be run through with only water once. You only have to fill the water tank to the maximum once and insert the capsule holder, the opening of the water tank is a bit small and consequently more difficult to fill. There is already a plastic capsule in it for cleaning only. The amount of water can be adjusted on a small rotary control, for cleaning it must be set to the highest amount. The device has a slide switch that can be moved to the left and to the right. If you move it to the left (blue), cold water runs through and hot water to the right (red). For cleaning, water must now pass through once in each direction. Once you have done this, the first coffee can already be brewed.
Fill up the water tank again, remove the plastic capsule from the cleaning run and here you go. Insert the coffee capsule into the capsule holder, insert it into the machine and push down the handle. The capsule will show you the amount of water you need to adjust on the machine. The machine heats up once at the beginning and as soon as the light on the control switch changes from red to green, the machine is ready for use. This takes about 13 seconds. To start the machine, move the slider to the right or left and the machine starts immediately, when the coffee is ready, the slider jumps automatically back to the center. This took 57 seconds in the test with the highest water quantity. At the end of use, the machine automatically switches to stand-by mode after 1 minute.
Most of the cleaning of the device must be done by hand. Except for the capsule holder, no other removable parts are allowed in the dishwasher according to the instructions. The individual parts should therefore be washed by hand once and the surfaces can be cleaned with a towel. Afterwards you let the device run through as already described in the preparation once only with water. In addition, the appliance must be decalcified regularly. This is signalled to you by the device, if the light on the control knob lights up continuously red.
