The Bosch wet and dry vacuum cleaner AdvancedVac 20 was the most convincing in our test. It is compact, has all the necessary functions and impresses with its suction result. Dirt is hardly pushed back and forth and liquids are very well absorbed. No small dirt particles or moisture are left on the floor.
The Makita wet and dry vacuum cleaner VC2512L performed well in our test. The vacuum cleaner is compact, easy to clean and produces a satisfactory suction result. Dirt is easily pushed back and forth and whirled up.
The Kärcher multi-purpose vacuum cleaner WD 5 P only achieved satisfactory results in our test. In dry vacuuming the vacuum cleaner fulfils its function, but in wet vacuuming it quickly reaches its limits. The floor is still very wet after vacuuming, the wet animal litter is pushed back and forth and finally it clog the vacuum cleaner.
The Einhell wet and dry vacuum cleaner TE-VC 2230, only scored satisfactory in our test. Although it makes a high-quality impression, the suction result is not convincing. Dirt and liquids are pushed back and forth and the vacuum cleaner is loud and makes an unpleasant beeping sound.
Always use a filter bag for dry vacuuming. This simplifies the cleaning of the device.
For dry vacuuming or wet vacuuming, use the appropriate brush or rubber lip attachment. This improves the cleaning result.
Find out in advance exactly which materials you may absorb with your wet and dry vacuum cleaner! Some substances and liquids (for example ashes) may not be vacuumed at all or only with a special filter.
In the preparation of the test, we defined practical requirements and the following test criteria:
Range of functions
In order to evaluate these criteria, we have defined several tests for the wet and dry vacuum cleaners. In these tests, the devices have to vacuum up animal litter from laminate flooring and carpeting. In addition, a 5 litre puddle of water is spread over the laminate, which must also be vacuumed up. In the puddle also a little animal litter is spread, which must be removed. If the wet dry vacuum cleaners have additional functions, such as different suction levels, these are also checked. During 10 minutes of continuous operation, the power consumption and the volume are measured from a distance of one meter. Finally, cleaning is evaluated for each device.
In order to exclude mistakes and to ensure the load of everyday use, each test takes place in several runs.
The test criteria are given percentages depending on their importance. The final score is then objectively calculated from the test criteria using an algorithm.
Our product selection is based on observation of the current market. In addition to popular branded products, we also include insider tips in our selection. Criteria such as price and range of functions are an important factor for us. The test field is also determined by analysis and evaluation of customer reviews and external tests (e.g. Stiftung Warentest).
The devices are purchased anonymously or lent to us by the manufacturer. Dealers and manufacturers have no influence on the tests and our evaluation.
As soon as new relevant products come onto the market, our test field is extended by these. The new products go through the same test as the already tested devices.
Which devices come into the test and which criteria are tested are the be-all and end-all! We attach great importance to it, but this is not the rule.
Other tests evaluate the variety of functions and test them superficially for quality and performance. This includes, for example, whether a blowing function is present or how the containers are constructed. The general equipment and handling is described, including the cable length, the hose length and the handles on the device. Frequently these questions are clarified only in key points and in tabular form and there are hardly any test pictures or written test reports.
The origin of the functions mentioned is also questionable. Often only the manufacturer's data are used, which were taken up from different sources or are even embellished and falsified in some cases. For example, when measuring volume, it makes a considerable difference from which distance the volume is determined. A measurement taken directly on the device or one meter away, just as the normal distance from the device to the ear is, produces different results with different information content.
Stiftung Warentest has also not yet tested wet and dry vacuum cleaners. Real test reports are therefore hardly to be found, even videos either only present individual devices and or are already very outdated. Rarely are the devices used directly and only the appearance of a real test is created, which is, however, only composed of different sources of information.
