The MEDION suction robot with wiping function MD 18501 ensures a satisfactory cleaning result. It is easy to operate, but has shortcomings in independence. Now and then it can get lost in corners. The robot is supplied with many accessories and can be cleaned quickly.
The MEDION suction robot with wiping function MD 18501 is delivered in an illustrated box containing the most important information. It is supplied with a charging station, a light barrier and a remote control. The necessary power supply unit and batteries are also included. The robot is also equipped with a dust container including filter and a water tank. For this purpose, 2 brush attachments and 2 wiper attachments are included.
A brush is supplied for cleaning. The operating instructions are written in detail and easy to understand.
The battery of the vacuum cleaner is empty, so you have to charge it for 4.5 hours before you can use it.
Controls and functions
The suction robot can be controlled by means of a remote control or started directly on the device in auto mode. With the remote control you have several possibilities:
- Auto mode: "CLEAN"
- Selective cleaning: "CIRCLE"
- Return to the charging station: "HOUSE"
- Cleaning along walls and obstacles: "ARROWS"
- Set the start time using: "PLAN"
- Set the current time using: "CLOCK"
The times can be set using the arrow keys. Start time can be set in 15-minute increments.
The robot must be switched on directly on the unit with an ON/OFF switch. If you do not give your robot a command for more than 15 seconds, it will automatically switch to standby mode. You can also switch it into standby mode by pressing the "CLEAN" button for 3 seconds.
On the top side, 6 small LED lights are shining, which show you the battery status. When the battery level decreases, 2 lamps will start flashing. When recharging the battery, you can tell when the battery is fully charged. As soon as it is full, all lamps light up constantly.
In addition, there is a touch field with a play sign on the top side. By pressing this you start the robot in auto mode.
The robot has no timer function and only stops vacuuming when the battery is empty. If you want to stop the process, you can only do this with the remote control or by pressing the play icon on the robot. If you press the "Clean" button once more, the robot stops immediately and stays where it is. When you press the house button, the robot stops vacuuming and slowly returns to the charging station.
The operation of the robot is simple and easy.
A light barrier (virtual wall) is included in the scope of delivery. This can be installed, for example, in open rooms or in front of the stairs as a boundary. It emits an infrared light 3 meters wide and ensures that the robot does not drive over the barrier. This has worked well in all test runs, you just have to make sure that the barrier is on the right side in the direction of the robot's movement (seen from the charging station).
We have tested the vacuum cleaner on different surfaces and have found different results. For this purpose, we spread animal litter on the surfaces for suction function.
The comparison pictures compare before and after in "Clean Mode".
The suction robot manages to suck away almost all the shreds. At edges and in some places, however, snippets are left over because it does not drive to every location equally often. It needs quite a long time to do this, but passes over every spot several times. The result can be seen quite well here. The suction container has a somewhat small filling quantity of 300 ml and therefore needs to be emptied more often.
On a smooth floor, the vacuum cleaner manages to suck away all snippets without any problems.
For the wiping function you have to place the wiping attachment underneath the robot, which works very easily through a simple plug-in system. You also need to replace the suction tank inside the robot with your filled water tank. The water tank has a capacity of 250 ml and can be filled by opening the grey flap. Unfortunately, the tank has no drip stop and water leaks out directly underneath through 2 small holes, but this can be prevented by tilting the tank.
Also, the wiping function is very good. The floor gets really wet and the cloth does not have to be wetted by hand before. The wiping function will probably not completely replace the manual dabbling in the long run, but it is definitely good support in the household.
For safety reasons, always make sure to remove the water tank before loading the robot.
The driving behaviour of the robot is quite chaotic. The robot moves randomly through space and does not follow any particular system. Unfortunately, it sometimes gets stuck in the corners of the room during the test runs and either doesn't get out of the room on its own after 5 - 10 minutes or only with help.
Apart from that, he drives over all spots several times and despite the chaotic driving style, it leaves out almost no spots. The robot is not very independent, because it only drives back to the station by itself, if the battery is empty or if it gets the job from you. There is no timer function, but there is a start function.
Cleaning is quick and easy. Both the suction tank and the water tank can be easily removed from the inside and emptied. In order to open the robot, press on the robot when the inscription "Push" appears and it will open. There is also a cleaning brush with which dust and dirt can be removed from the interior. The two wiper attachments can be washed and used again and again.
