Resumee

The Home Brew Kit - Wheat beer is a funny and cool gift for people who want to gain their first experience in brewing beer. The brewing process is well explained in the manual and is easy to follow. However, the essential processes of brewing are already anticipated. The result is rather sobering as the final product looks visually appealing but the taste leaves a lot to be desired. In terms of taste, the striking banana note stands out. As with the other brew keg beer, the beer is unfortunately hardly carbonated. The beer is in any case edible. Personally, the brewing set only made me want to brew my own real beer even more.

Pro

  • Easy to use
  • Cool gift

Cons

  • Little carbonic acid

Preparation is simple and quick but has little to do with the brewing process.

General information

The Home Brew Kit - Wheat beer of brew kegs is delivered in attractive packaging. The instructions are illustrated in English as well as German and are clearly understandable.

Scope of delivery

  • 1 empty 5-litre barrel as fermentation tank
  • 1 bag with malt extract
  • 1 package of yeast
  • 1 bottle of hop extract
  • 1 pressure valve
  • 1 instruction manual

Preparation

Malt extract added to barrel.
The malt extract resembles the consistency of honey.

First, you have to remove the transparent lid on top of the barrel. Do not throw away the lid yet. Next, you fill the malt extract into the barrel. Then pour 400 ml of cold water into the barrel. Then add another 1 l of boiling water. To sterilize the pressure valve that is included in the delivery, you simply boil a little more water. Now the transparent lid is back in place. Put the lid back on the opening of the barrel. Shake the barrel vigorously for about 30 seconds. Now fill in 2.8 l of cold water. As the next step, you add the yeast and the hops into the barrel. Now you only have to close the opening of the barrel with the pressure valve.

Fermentation

Leave the barrel at room temperature for 5 days, if possible unmoved. The fermentation phase may also last a few days longer.

The barrel in the refrigerator.
After a total of seven days you can taste your home-brewed beer.

When the fermentation of your beer is complete, place the keg upright in the refrigerator for two days.

Taste

The finished beer is strongly reminiscent of a wheat beer due to the banana note. Because of the low carbon dioxide, the taste and the whitecap suffer. For me personally, it was enough to try the beer.

The tap will open.
The first few beers will make a handsome head of froth.

Whitecap

A whitecap is not as pronounced due to the lack of carbon dioxide. The head was even better with the first draught beers.
