In order to evaluate these criteria, we have defined several tests for cordless vacuum cleaners. In these, the devices vacuum sawdust from smooth and carpet floors. They also have to clean edges.
Carpets and smooth floors must be cleaned in the test.
The cleaning result is documented in before-and-after pictures. The handling, ergonomics, and volume of the products are checked during the vacuuming process. We also check the vacuum cleaners for additional functions and attachments. Finally, the batteries of all vacuum cleaners are discharged in the endurance test and then recharged.
In order to rule out errors and to ensure the strain of everyday use, each test takes place in several stages.
The test criteria are weighted according to their importance. The final score is then objectively calculated from the test criteria using an algorithm.

The devices are purchased anonymously or lent to us by the manufacturer. Dealers and manufacturers have no influence on the tests and our evaluation.
As soon as new relevant products come onto the market, our test field is extended by these. The new products go through the same test as the already tested devices.
Stiftung Warentest, a renowned German product testing foundation, tested wireless vacuum cleaners in February 2018 - the result was shockingly poor. Of the 10 devices tested, eight scored only "Poor" and two "Satisfactory". With a score of 2.7, the test winner is the Ultimate athlete from Bosch. The PC-008E from Cleanmaxx, which was graded with a 5.3, comes last.
Only recently, Stiftung Warentest conducted a further test of the wireless vacuum cleaners. 10 new devices were closely examined. But the result only looks slightly better than in the last test: two of the devices tested received only the marks "poor" and six "sufficient". Another two confirm the top score with a satisfactory overall result. With a rating of 3.0, the BBS1A114 ProPower is the new test winner, another Bosch product. The new losers among the suction cups are the RA22E 011 from Hovver and Black+Decker´s CUA525BHA. Both received an overall score of 4.9.
The final score in both the new and old tests is made up of four criteria: Suction (40%), battery (5%), handling (30%), environmental properties (15%) and durability (10%).
In terms of suction power, the dust absorption on hard floors, corners and edges was tested, as was the cleaning of upholstery and carpets. It was also examined how well the vacuum cleaners can absorb animal hair from the carpet. Only four machines were able to convince in the interim evaluation: Bosch's athlete Ultimate, the BBS1A114 ProPower and the V8 Absolute as well as the Cyclone V10 from Dyson.
The rating for the battery performance was mixed - "Good" to "Sufficient". According to the test results, some batteries only lasted a few minutes at full suction power. Stiftung Warentest came to the conclusion in both tests that most suction cups are only suitable for small apartments or sporadic suction actions.
The environmental properties of many vacuum cleaners had a negative impact on the results. Although they all performed well in terms of power consumption, the noise level is too high for many appliances. According to Stiftung Warentest, it is also very alarming that many appliances are unable to hold the fine dust that has been sucked up. This is then blown back into the air. With ten devices it was so serious that the verdict was unsatisfactory. The Dyson V8 Absolute was able to score here, it does not emit fine dust and even comes to a very good result.
In order to assess the durability, a 70 hour engine endurance test was carried out and the battery checked for loss of battery life. Almost all suction cups achieved a solid result.
We also tested the Dyson V8 Absolute Absolute and, as in the first test by Stiftung Warentest, it took second place. We also noticed the somewhat short battery life, but the wireless vacuum cleaner from Dyson could score with many additional and practical attachments.
Our test winner, the Philips FC6823/01 SpeedPro Max, was also in the new test of Stiftung Warentest. However, with a score of 4.4, it did not score particularly well there. The main reason for this was the inadequate result in terms of environmental properties and the "sufficient" suction performance - in which the unit was nevertheless able to score with the best coarse material intake and hard floor cleaning. The handling was also judged to be good, just like we did. We could not understand the deficiencies of the suction performance in our test runs.

Battery vacuum cleaners do it differently!
In contrast to normal vacuum cleaners, battery-powered vacuum cleaners have a particularly slim design. They combine all essential features in a handle-shaped housing. In addition, the usual power cable is omitted, as the battery takes over the powering of the vacuum cleaner.
Conventional vacuum cleaners are characterized primarily by their energy supply and performance. In addition, the motor and collection container are normally hidden in a bulky housing, which users have to pull behind them. The situation is different with a battery-powered rod vacuum cleaner.
Nothing significant has changed in the usual functioning of a cordless vacuum cleaner. Such a vacuum cleaner is designed to remove dirt particles and dirt from the floor. A collecting container collects the dirt.
The function is as usual: Technically speaking, a so-called suction motor creates a suction to suck in the air from the outside. Dirt particles are also drawn into the suction. All the dirt remains in the vacuum cleaner through the suction nozzle, while the remaining air is expelled again.

Such a vacuum cleaner is also suitable if the living space to be vacuumed is not too large. Due to its space-saving dimensions, a cordless vacuum cleaner with rechargeable battery is ideal for small living spaces.

For how long does the battery last? For how long can the vacuum cleaner do the housework? Manufacturers usually specify this time in minutes. Buyers should pay attention to this time. Normally, vacuuming in an apartment takes between 10 and 60 minutes.
How long the battery lasts depends mainly on the size of the area to be vacuumed and on your personal constitution. Those who get through quickly might not be bothered by lower battery performance. The same applies to vacuum at low suction levels. The higher the suction level, the faster the battery drains.
While the battery discharges after a certain time of operation, the question of when the battery is fully charged and the rod vacuum cleaner is ready for use arises at the same time. How long does it take for the battery to be fully charged? The charging time varies greatly and depends mainly on the model and the manufacturer. In general, it is worth looking at this information. It can be between approximately 3 and 16 hours.
Modern lithium-ion batteries in devices are characterized by their energy efficiency. The categories of energy efficiency classes do not exist for battery-powered vacuum cleaners. Lithium-ion batteries are usually used in battery-powered vacuum cleaners and help to increase energy efficiency.
A conventional vacuum cleaner needs a permanent connection to a power source, i.e. a socket, during the vacuuming process. This is not the case with a battery-powered vacuum cleaner. The user charges it once and then uses it flexibly.
