3rd place: Dyson V11 Absolute Cordless Vacuum Cleaner

The Dyson - V11 Absolute Cordless Vacuum Cleaner delivers a very good cleaning result and is easy to handle. Just emptying the filter should be done directly above the garbage can to prevent the particles from dropping next to it. The individual accessories can be assembled using a click system and the attachments can also be attached to the wall bracket and stowed there. Also, the volume is okay in the lighter modes and not too loud.

The ProfiCare - PC-BS 3035A Battery-powered hand vacuum cleaner makes a very good impression with the cleaning result and its flexible setting options as a hand vacuum cleaner. The fact that the vacuum cleaner can be folded is also very practical. A disadvantage, however, is the battery, which lasts only 20 minutes maximum, which is little compared to the charging time of 4.5 hours.

10th place: ROIDMI X20 NEX

The ROIDMI - X20 NEX is a solid vacuum cleaner with a satisfactory cleaning result. In order to clean the floor properly from the particles, it is necessary to pass over the spots more often. It is noticeable that the vacuum cleaner is a bit impractical because the charging cable bends when charging and the power button is inconvenient to reach. Also, the battery only lasts a few minutes in turbo mode and the runtime decreases rapidly if you use the mode in between. Otherwise, the battery lasts about an hour in normal mode and even quite long in relation to the charging time. In general, cleaning the device is very easy and the lamps, which turn on in dark rooms, help you to see the dirt better.

Rowenta Air Force - thumbnail Test seal: Rowenta Air Force, Rating satisfactory

Rowenta Air Force

The Rowenta - Air Force is a sufficient vacuum cleaner, which fulfils its task well, especially on carpet surfaces.

The many attachments are only partially necessary and constitute many small parts that do not all find a place on the wall mount. The battery life is quite short compared to the charging time and as soon as you switch on the turbo mode it drops considerably.

Philips - XC8147/01 SpeedPro Max Aqua

Winner: read review
  • Regular emptying of the container prevents unpleasant odours
  • Filters should be checked regularly and washed if necessary in order to ensure necessary vacuuming power.
  • Dust should be vacuumed every two to three days to keep the floor clean as crumbs and particles fall down every day.
  • The brushes should be extended on sensitive floors to avoid scratches caused by small stones.
  • Corner attachments also help to reach narrow areas where the foot does not fit

In the run-up to the test, we defined practice-oriented requirements and the following test criteria:

  • Cleaning result
  • Handling
  • Volume
  • Functions

In order to evaluate these criteria, we have defined several tests for cordless vacuum cleaners. In these, the devices vacuum sawdust from smooth and carpet floors. They also have to clean edges.

Carpets and smooth floors must be cleaned in the test.

The cleaning result is documented in before-and-after pictures. The handling, ergonomics, and volume of the products are checked during the vacuuming process. We also check the vacuum cleaners for additional functions and attachments. Finally, the batteries of all vacuum cleaners are discharged in the endurance test and then recharged.

In order to rule out errors and to ensure the strain of everyday use, each test takes place in several stages.

The test criteria are weighted according to their importance. The final score is then objectively calculated from the test criteria using an algorithm.

Product selection

Our product selection is based on an observation of the current market. In addition to popular branded products, we also include insider tips in our selection. Criteria such as price and range of functions are an important factor for us. The test field is also determined by analysis and evaluation of customer reviews and external tests (e.g. Stiftung Warentest).

The devices are purchased anonymously or lent to us by the manufacturer. Dealers and manufacturers have no influence on the tests and our evaluation.

As soon as new relevant products come onto the market, our test field is extended by these. The new products go through the same test as the already tested devices.

Stiftung Warentest, a renowned German product testing foundation, tested wireless vacuum cleaners in February 2018 - the result was shockingly poor. Of the 10 devices tested, eight scored only "Poor" and two "Satisfactory". With a score of 2.7, the test winner is the Ultimate athlete from Bosch. The PC-008E from Cleanmaxx, which was graded with a 5.3, comes last.

Only recently, Stiftung Warentest conducted a further test of the wireless vacuum cleaners. 10 new devices were closely examined. But the result only looks slightly better than in the last test: two of the devices tested received only the marks "poor" and six "sufficient". Another two confirm the top score with a satisfactory overall result. With a rating of 3.0, the BBS1A114 ProPower is the new test winner, another Bosch product. The new losers among the suction cups are the RA22E 011 from Hovver and Black+Decker´s CUA525BHA. Both received an overall score of 4.9.

The final score in both the new and old tests is made up of four criteria: Suction (40%), battery (5%), handling (30%), environmental properties (15%) and durability (10%).

In terms of suction power, the dust absorption on hard floors, corners and edges was tested, as was the cleaning of upholstery and carpets. It was also examined how well the vacuum cleaners can absorb animal hair from the carpet. Only four machines were able to convince in the interim evaluation: Bosch's athlete Ultimate, the BBS1A114 ProPower and the V8 Absolute as well as the Cyclone V10 from Dyson.

The rating for the battery performance was mixed - "Good" to "Sufficient". According to the test results, some batteries only lasted a few minutes at full suction power. Stiftung Warentest came to the conclusion in both tests that most suction cups are only suitable for small apartments or sporadic suction actions.

The environmental properties of many vacuum cleaners had a negative impact on the results. Although they all performed well in terms of power consumption, the noise level is too high for many appliances. According to Stiftung Warentest, it is also very alarming that many appliances are unable to hold the fine dust that has been sucked up. This is then blown back into the air. With ten devices it was so serious that the verdict was unsatisfactory. The Dyson V8 Absolute was able to score here, it does not emit fine dust and even comes to a very good result.

In order to assess the durability, a 70 hour engine endurance test was carried out and the battery checked for loss of battery life. Almost all suction cups achieved a solid result.

We also tested the Dyson V8 Absolute Absolute and, as in the first test by Stiftung Warentest, it took second place. We also noticed the somewhat short battery life, but the wireless vacuum cleaner from Dyson could score with many additional and practical attachments.

Our test winner, the Philips FC6823/01 SpeedPro Max, was also in the new test of Stiftung Warentest. However, with a score of 4.4, it did not score particularly well there. The main reason for this was the inadequate result in terms of environmental properties and the "sufficient" suction performance - in which the unit was nevertheless able to score with the best coarse material intake and hard floor cleaning. The handling was also judged to be good, just like we did. We could not understand the deficiencies of the suction performance in our test runs.

Vacuum cleaners make housework easier. A cordless vacuum cleaner or so-called battery-powered vacuum cleaner allows you to do your house cleaning more conveniently, quickly and easily than before. The integrated battery offers flexible freedom of movement. However, the lightweight differs from competing products on the market. What makes a cordless vacuum cleaner so special? What are the explicit advantages and what do I need to consider when buying? This article will tell you.

Battery vacuum cleaners do it differently!

In contrast to normal vacuum cleaners, battery-powered vacuum cleaners have a particularly slim design. They combine all essential features in a handle-shaped housing. In addition, the usual power cable is omitted, as the battery takes over the powering of the vacuum cleaner.

Conventional vacuum cleaners are characterized primarily by their energy supply and performance. In addition, the motor and collection container are normally hidden in a bulky housing, which users have to pull behind them. The situation is different with a battery-powered rod vacuum cleaner.

vacuum cleaner in use
vacuum cleaner in use

Nothing significant has changed in the usual functioning of a cordless vacuum cleaner. Such a vacuum cleaner is designed to remove dirt particles and dirt from the floor. A collecting container collects the dirt.

The function is as usual: Technically speaking, a so-called suction motor creates a suction to suck in the air from the outside. Dirt particles are also drawn into the suction. All the dirt remains in the vacuum cleaner through the suction nozzle, while the remaining air is expelled again.

The main differences are the design and the way the vacuum cleaner is supplied with energy.

Who is a wireless vacuum cleaner best suited for? Normally, people who want to vacuum the floor more spontaneously will benefit. A battery-powered vacuum cleaner in the form of a handle is very suitable for a quick cleaning in between.

Such a vacuum cleaner is also suitable if the living space to be vacuumed is not too large. Due to its space-saving dimensions, a cordless vacuum cleaner with rechargeable battery is ideal for small living spaces.

The battery-powered vacuum cleaners are ideal for quick, spontaneous cleaning.

In addition to the actual purpose of cleaning the floor, an accumulator vacuum cleaner usually has an integrated hand vacuum cleaner. These little helpers are particularly suitable for vacuuming upholstered furniture or even cars.

Battery vacuum cleaners have some advantages compared to a conventional vacuum cleaner. For example, their compact design means they take up less space. This applies both to storage and to times when the device is in use. Cordless vacuum cleaners with rechargeable batteries save space at home.

In addition to saving space during storage, battery-powered vacuum cleaners can also be used flexibly. The integrated battery makes the vacuum cleaner largely independent of a socket. The only requirement for charging the battery is a socket and a charging station.

Battery vacuum cleaners provide: Space-saving, mobility, independence and fast operational readiness

Users also benefit from the lower weight of the battery-powered, wireless vacuum cleaner. Convenient handling is a major advantage over conventional cable vacuum cleaners.

Last but not least, a battery-powered vacuum cleaner often offers an integrated hand vacuum cleaner. This can be easily removed and enables the vacuuming of smaller surfaces in a short time. These small integrated helpers are ideal for the quick vacuuming of upholstered furniture or the interior of the car.

The biggest advantage of the cordless vacuum cleaner also turns out to be a disadvantage of the device: the battery of the stick-shaped vacuum cleaner has to be recharged regularly. The battery only has limited usability - usually up to one hour. The time depends mainly on the model and the manufacturer. Frequently, the vacuum cleaner's battery charge is sufficient for a period of between 20 and 60 minutes.

Another disadvantage is the dirt collection container. It is smaller than a normal vacuum cleaner because of its rod-shaped construction. This requires more frequent emptying of the container. For some users, this appears to be an annoying aspect, as it affects the comfort of handling.

When you buy a wireless vacuum cleaner, you can differentiate between different types of models. For example, the battery-powered vacuum cleaner is available free-standing. Some models use charging stations on the floor. Other versions allow the battery charging station to be mounted on the wall to hang the vacuum cleaner.

In addition to the question of whether it should be a free-standing model, there is also the question of the dirt collection method: Does the battery-powered vacuum cleaner have a bag or not? Many of the models available today do not have a bag.

Nevertheless, some manufacturers still use a bag as standard. Here the individual preference is decisive for a purchase. Likewise, budget and environmental awareness can play a role.

Some models require a bag to be disposed of as household waste and bought as a replacement. To avoid this, it may be worthwhile to choose a bagless battery-powered vacuum cleaner. Many manufacturers who rely on bags are increasingly using reusable bags that are easy to empty and clean.

Many aspects are relevant for the purchase decision: The question of the price is not always the most important one. Factors such as the charging time of the battery, the weight of the vacuum cleaner or the noise level also play an important role in the purchase. Below are the main points to consider when buying a battery-powered rod vacuum cleaner:

Operating time

For how long does the battery last? For how long can the vacuum cleaner do the housework? Manufacturers usually specify this time in minutes. Buyers should pay attention to this time. Normally, vacuuming in an apartment takes between 10 and 60 minutes.

How long the battery lasts depends mainly on the size of the area to be vacuumed and on your personal constitution. Those who get through quickly might not be bothered by lower battery performance. The same applies to vacuum at low suction levels. The higher the suction level, the faster the battery drains.

Charging time

While the battery discharges after a certain time of operation, the question of when the battery is fully charged and the rod vacuum cleaner is ready for use arises at the same time. How long does it take for the battery to be fully charged? The charging time varies greatly and depends mainly on the model and the manufacturer. In general, it is worth looking at this information. It can be between approximately 3 and 16 hours.

Energy consumption

Modern lithium-ion batteries in devices are characterized by their energy efficiency. The categories of energy efficiency classes do not exist for battery-powered vacuum cleaners. Lithium-ion batteries are usually used in battery-powered vacuum cleaners and help to increase energy efficiency.

A conventional vacuum cleaner needs a permanent connection to a power source, i.e. a socket, during the vacuuming process. This is not the case with a battery-powered vacuum cleaner. The user charges it once and then uses it flexibly.

The charging process can also save energy. This depends above all on the charging station: Some models are able to automatically stop charging the battery as soon as it is full.

Noise level

How loud is the vacuum cleaner during use? Although battery-powered vacuum cleaners are similar in design, they differ in volume. Conventional vacuum cleaners without rechargeable batteries often impress with their low volume.

The modern battery-operated handle vacuum cleaners also offer different noise levels. When purchasing battery-powered vacuum cleaners, it may, therefore, be advisable to pay particular attention to the volume level.

Weight

How heavy is the handle-shaped vacuum cleaner? In any case, rod vacuum cleaners are lighter than conventional vacuum cleaners. This is due to their compact designs. Since they do not have a large housing for the motor behind them, the compact vacuum cleaners save a lot of weight.

In addition, users benefit from the integrated hand vacuum cleaner: it can be easily removed and thus offers an even lower weight for upholstered furniture or hard-to-reach corners.

Dirt container volume

dirt container
Dirt container

Usually, the purchase decision also includes the question of how much dirt the battery-powered vacuum cleaner can collect. How large is the collection container? The capacity is usually given in litres. The larger the volume, the more dirt the vacuum cleaner collects. This means that the container does not have to be emptied as often. Users can thus save time and effort.

Accessories and suitable brushes

accessories
Accessories

In principle, not every brush attachment is suitable for every surface. Different brush attachments are used on carpets than on smooth hard floors. The wrong attachment can cause damage on the wrong floor. Therefore, accessories should not be neglected when purchasing a battery-powered vacuum cleaner.

Normally a brush is already included with a battery-powered vacuum cleaner. However, everyone should ask themselves which brushes and nozzles are necessary for their own room floors. Afterwards, the requirements for the desired equipment can be adjusted with the purchase: Are there suitable brush attachments to buy? What accessories does the manufacturer offer?

Price-performance ratio and other experiences

In addition to the question of the technical specifications and how many accessories are available, there is also the question of the price: How much does the desired vacuum cleaner cost? Is the investment worth it? What are the results at test institutes and what do other users think about the device? All these questions can be helpful in finding the right model.

Vacuum cleaners are now available in many model types and designs. Cordless vacuum cleaners differ from conventional vacuum cleaners. They are slimmer, lighter and more comfortable to handle, but at the same time have some disadvantages.

Before buying, you should, therefore, check some features and compare them with your own wishes and requirements. People who are informed about the possibilities can find fast the suitable vacuum cleaner for their own household.

  • The volume of the wireless vacuum cleaner
  • Easy emptying and capacity of the dirt container
  • Battery performance and charging time in relation to each other, as well as the possibility of exchanging the battery
  • Variety of attachments

Hi, if the battery fails after guarantee on the Philips FC6823 can it be replaced? I notice on your report the Dyson V8 can’t be replaced which Is a definite negative for me. I think the Philips ticks all the boxes for me. Thanks for very detailed report.
